Book Description
About the Book:

GOA's fascination and charm arise partly from its sheer natural beauty and partly from its distinct Indo-Iberian culture, Goa's best known contemporary writer, Mario Cabral e sa, attempts to capture the essence of this amalgam of cultures in his laconic style, peppered with a distinctively Goan sense of humour. He flits from history to legend, from tales of love to tales of gore, from Catholic orthodoxy to hedonistic manifestations of liberation, very Latin in spirit, in order to define the identity of this tiny island. What emerges is a memorable account of the essentially Portuguese connection of the state and the history of some of its important monuments and feast days. Lavish colour pictures and centrespreads by Amit Pasricha buttress the uniqueness and vivacity of the state's culture.

About the Author:

MARIO CABRAL E SA, a graduate of the Portuguese lycee, is a well known journalist and prolific writer whose articles on a variety of topics have been published in reputed newspapers and magazines in India and abroad.

As an expert on Goa's history and culture, he had researched the scripts and been the cultural advisor for a number of Goa-related feature and documentary films produced by national and international units. He was associated with the production of the Sea Wolves and was the cultural adviser to the noted director Shyam Benegal in the production of the award-winning film, Trikaal. Mario Cabral e Sa lives in Goa with his wife and two children on his small ancestral island called Divar.

AMIT PASRICHA, born in a family of photographers, was already taking pictures at the age of six. By the time he graduated from St. Stephen's College in 1986 he had established a reputation as a professional photographer. After working with leading National Geographic photographers in Maine, USA, he settled down to serious 'social landscape' photography. He has travelled extensively in India and abroad. For this book Amit visited Goa three times to participate in what he calls the 'seasonal flow of spirit'.
