He ventures out into the rainy night to reach home. On the way he encounters a young woman who is caught in the rain. Venu offers a lift to the woman and drops her home. The woman’s bag is left in Venu’s car and when he goes back to return it, he finds the terrible truth that the woman had died four years ago and he had unknowingly offered a lift to the Ghost of the woman. But is that all there is to it? Venu stumbles on to another terrible truth…

‘The Post Mortem’ brings us in proximity to Dr. Pandey, who is in charge of Post Mortems in the Sion Hospital. The Hospital’s proximity of the Eastern Express Highway brings in many accident victims and also corpses. Dr. Panday has his Schedule full, handling post mortems. He gets a personal call at his apartment from a stranger in the night. The stranger informs him that Dr. Pandey would receive a post mortem case the nest day. He informs the doctor to check behind the right earlobe of the corpse. Dr. Pandey argues with the stranger that his schedule for the next day has been planned and he has no case that the stranger has described. Next day, the Dean of the Hospital informs Dr. Pandey that he has to perform a post mortem on an accident case. When Dr. Pandey pulls back the sheet on the corpse to perform the post mortem, he is horrifies to find that the corpse was the same stranger who had called on him the previous night. Was he visited by the ghost of the stranger who had come to direct him to the cause of his death? Going by the directions of the stranger, Dr. Pandey learns the terrible truth that the stranger had not died in an accident, but was murdered.

‘The Auto rickshaw Ghost’ takes us into the life of Radheshyam Gupta, and auto Rickshaw driver, who is the normal family man, having ups and downs in his life. The story captures the reader’s imagination and identifies Gupta as the man whom they meet in everyday life. But even the common man experiences something that is quite out of the ordinary. Something as extraordinary as a Churail or a female ghost.

The title also consists of other stories like ‘The Chiplun Possession’ where in a student from Mumbai who studies engineering in an institute in Chipun is possessed by the spirit of the landowner on which the hostel has come up.

It also consists of the story of a loving governess in ‘Who brought you home’, who even after her death does not forget to pick up the child under her care from school and drop him home as is her daily routine.

‘Thread in the needle’ awakens us to the fact of how a mother feels on knowing that her son has unknowingly befriended a female ghost and is now trapped in her wiles. The son wants to marry the female ghost. The mother is mortified and enlists the help of a tantric to help her free her son from the snares of the ghost. The story takes you into the house where the mother and son stay with an unlikely tenant the ghost.

The stories contained in the title makes you aware that there is another side to Mumbai as well. A side where the unlikeliest of paranormal activities take place.

The stories are compiled after hearing out people who have actually witnessed there happenings or who spoken to people who have witnessed these happenings.

All in all it makes delightful reading and provides the necessary thrills as it takes the reader into the many paranormal happenings in a concrete jungle which is Mumbai.
