Preface
Sixty one years ago, on Asoka Vijaya Dashami Day, which happened to be 14lh October in 1956, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar renounced his ancestral religion Hinduism and embraced Buddhism along with about a half a million of his faithful followers at Deeksha Bhoomi, Nagpur - the land of Nagas of yester years who were staunch Buddhists.

The year 2006 was the Golden Jubilee Year of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's Conversion to Buddhism and it was celebrated with gaiety and religious fervor throughout India and abroad.

With a view to assess the overall effect of conversion on the lives of the Buddhist Converts, Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University's Post Graduate Department of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Thought had taken the lead in organizing a two-day National Seminar on the "Impact of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's Conversion to Buddhism" on February 25-26, 2006. Honable R.S. Kasare, a Member of the Source Material Committee of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Writings and Speeches and a Senate Member of Nagpur University, addressed the gathering and explained the circumstances that led Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to embrace Buddhism. I had the good fortune to have been felicitated by the Chief Guest Honable Shri R.S. Gavai in the Inaugural Ceremony.
