Jivas are by nature eternal servants of the Supreme Lord. Since time immemorial they have fallen into the miserable cycle of birth and death because of misuse of their partial free-will and turning their faces away from the Lord. All merciful Supreme Lord Vrajendranandan Śrī Kṛṣṇa sometimes personally descend on the earth by His partial expansions and sometimes He sends His dear devotees in order to bring the conditioned souls back to their original constitutional position. Among all the processes in order to bring these conditioned souls back to the Lord, devotional service (bhakti) is the most significant and topmost. Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa himself appeared almost 500 years ago as Śrī Caitanya Mahaprabhu son of mother Śaci - by assuming the mood and complexion of Śrīmatī Rādhārānī. He very mercifully gifted a beautiful garland of holy names and Love of Godhead to jīvas. Thus He brought revolution in the spiritual path. What to speak of human beings, even birds and beasts also crossed over the ocean of material life. The teachings of devotion (Bhakti- tattva) which was given by Him to Särvabhauma Bhațțācārya (an Advaita scholar in Jagannatha Purī), Rāmānanda Rāya on the bank of river Godāvarī, Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī in Prayāga-rāja, Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī (a great devotee scholar) and an advaita scholar Prakāśānanda Sarasvatī in Kāśī are all encapsulated in authentic literatures viz. Śrī Hari Bhakti Vilāsa, Śrī Caitanya Caritāmṛta, etc. On the basis of those very books, Śrīla Cakravarti Thakur, Śrīla Baladeva Vidyābhūşaņa and Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thakura compiled many other books.
