I acknowledge my existence to my parents and ancestors.
I am grateful to all those people who came to me seeking my help and guidance with respect to their issues and problems.
I would not have gained the required experience to write this book but for their faith and belief in me.
I am especially grateful to Mr. Yuvraj Kapadia of EKAA Foundation, Mumbai, who initiated me into modern hypnotherapy methods.
I also express my gratitude to all the instructors of the Hypnosis Motivational Institute, Los Angeles, California, who helped me learn about modern hypnosis techniques.
I acknowledge the use of some portions of hypnosis scripts from the book Self Hypnosis by William W. Hewitt.
I learnt a lot from my Vyom, who is a compassionate, spiritual soul. I am also indebted to Vandana, who is a karma yogini, for maintaining my home efficiently.
Hypnosis creates awe, fear and curiosity. To many, it is a mystical power to control someone's mind. To some, it is a relaxation method. While many people mock hypnosis, calling it "street magic" or a "hoax."
The word 'hypnosis' scares people away. This is because of wrong notions, faulty understanding, distorted perceptions, and fearful impressions, thanks to TV shows and movies.
Some people think that hypnosis is of very recent origin, not older than a hundred years. Well, contrary to such beliefs, hypnosis is an ancient knowledge form, encoded in the Hindu scriptures 6,000 years ago. Hypnosis in ancient India was known as sammohana. It is akin to maya (illusion). Hindu scriptures like Yoga Vashistha talk about maya and explain the methods to get out of maya.
We never doubt our dreams. Everything in our dream looks real. In our dreams, we undergo various emotions such as elation, fear, love and hatred. When we get up in the morning, we realize that everything we saw and experienced was just an illusion.
The duality experienced in our dreams is illusory, the duality implied in the creation of the world is also illusory. Objects seem to exist and function in our inner world of consciousness in a dream. Objects also seem to exist and function in the outer world of consciousness when we are awake. Well, nothing really happens in both these states. This is maya (illusion).
Have you observed that you have not changed a bit from your childhood?
If you look deeply into yourself, you will realize that your reaction patterns, your anger, your restlessness, and your jealousy have not changed. Nothing has changed!
Inner child
Your attachment, your hatred, your possessiveness, and your insecurities of childhood still continue to manifest in you. As a small child, you were eager for a toy car, and now you hanker after a big car. As a child, you wanted to feel important, and now you want recognition as a successful person. As a child, you wanted colored stones, now you want diamonds.
Only the shape, size, color and types of the things have changed, but your requirements have not changed. You are still a child. Your inner child keeps controlling your life.
Oscillating mind
Your oscillating mind keeps hopping between the past and the future. In the race against time, you have the urge to feel important. You are overwhelmed by sudden fears and aspirations, which guzzle the vital energies of your life.
