This research is an attempt to bring Gandhi's wisdom in today's context of management and leadership. True wisdom is not isolated by race, religion, time or geography. It transcends all. Gandhi was born a Hindu Indian but today his universal wisdom belongs to the world. He not only had rapport with diverse people, but was in tune with nature and self. This book is an effort to put forth a few more of his words, but in light of the present.
The world is now a tightly knit structure and every single thing large and small, is "global." Gandhi's heart was global decades ago, and therefore, he today remains in hearts globally. In studying institutional management and education over the years, I felt that some of what is being taught and explained as effective theories and methods by today's leadership experts, has deeper roots. It was in one of the institutional management classes that I read Gandhi's autobiography for the first time. I knew then that some of the deeper roots were hidden in Gandhi's words and actions long ago.
Gandhi's words and actions showed that good leadership or good management, is an outcome of genuine self. Gandhi did not get an MBA or leadership degree from a university, yet his leadership still remains unparalleled today. He earned his MBA from within, from others and from God. Such learning remains relevant and fresh regardless of passing of time and change.
I pray that the reader will overlook the faults of this book for they belong to me, and cherish the timeless perfection in the words of this book for it belongs to Gandhi.
Although there is a substantial body of literature regarding Gandhi and his life, this is the first most detailed and comprehensive document that brings to light Gandhi's wisdom with reference to today's organizational leadership.
Gandhi was a successful manager, leader, ceo long before the field of leadership and management became a formal curriculum and degree course.
This book demonstrates that Gandhi's wisdom is eternal. A major element of eternal wisdom is that it must be simple as well as practical and therefore it can be applied to any field, in any situation, at any time. The author first provides concepts from substantial works of today's management and leadership experts and then successfully illustrates living examples of these same modern concepts as they were spoken or executed by Gandhi so long ago.
Gandhi's own viewpoints are well illustrated throughout the book. The significance of this book lies in the fact that the author has made every attempt to review every single documented word spoken by Gandhi and almost every documented word spoken about Gandhi. This book is excellent reading for anyone searching for true and fundamental leadership answers.
