Persons with high morale are the ones who neither get fascinated by the rewards nor lose their patience against hindrances midway, continue to strive until the ultimate goal is attained. Maintaining allegiance to this valued teaching and inspired by the message from the Honble Prime Minister, "CONVERTING CALAMITY TO OPPORTUNITY", Ministry of AYUSH has come out with this Ayush Kvatha Corea /Ayush Kusinir Cürasam/Ayush Safür—Joshanda.
Considering the importance of immunity boosting measures and general health promotion of masses in the unforeseen outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, lead was taken at the highest levels and this Ayush Kvatha Cora /Ayush Kusinir Coraeam/ Ayush Safür--Joshanda has been launched. The unique formulation could even be prepared by anybody at home as it is made with household ingredients of day-to-day use. Moreover, a de novo dosage form has also been framed so as to ensure extemporaneous preparation of the medicine in a consumer-friendly manner. Further, the Formularies of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani Systems of Medicine have also been construed to introduce this formulation to ascertain its propagation with uniform nomenclature instead of prevalent practice of proprietorship in such cases.
I feel immense pleasure to see materialization of such paradigm shift in policy of AYUSH besides conservation and propagation of classical time-tested traditional knowledge. By venturing into this launch. Completing all the tedious but necessary formalities and bringing out its Pharmacopoeial standards in four months was a Herculean task, for which, I applaud the sincere efforts of Dr. D. C. Katoch, Advisor (Ay.) & Director, In-charge, PCIMSH and his entire team, Research Councils involved in Standardization of the product, ASU Pharmacopoeia Committees and Scientific Body of PCIM&H.
Ministry of AYUSH promulgated a formulation of traditionally used home remedies in the form of decoction or infusion on the appeal of Hon'ble Prime Minister to the nation at the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic It was advocated as one of the health promotion and immunity boosting measures in the advisories issued by the Ministry for public healthcare Composition and proportion of the ingredients viz Tulasi (Ocimum tenuiflorum). Dalchini (Cinnamomum verum) Shunth (Zingiber officinale) and Manch (Piper nigrum) along with dose method of preparation and uses of the formulation was finalized in the Drugs Policy Section of the Ministry in consultation with vanous experts and Chairman Scientific Body of Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy Prof SS Sarkar Thereafter the approved formulation was circulated to the State UT Governments on 24 April, 2020 to consider granting license to the industry for its commercial manufacturing in generic name as Ayush Kwath or Ayush Kudineer or Ayush Joshanda in accordance with the pharmacopoeial standards of the ingredients and provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Rules 1945 for Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drugs.
Considering the importance of quality of ASU drugs as pertinent from the regulatory perspective. PCIM&H was entrusted the work of developing quality standards and specifications of the Ayush formulation and to publish them in the respective Pharmacopoeias and Formularies In-house experts of PCIM&H steered the scientific work involving four laboratories of the Research Councils and the erstwhile Pharmacopoeial Laboratory for Indian Medicine, Reconstituted Ayurveda.
