First Bengali Grammar is an outstanding contribution to the field of Bengali grammatical studies. This is the first of its kind and unique of its nature. This book describes historically different facets of Bengali grammar from its historical point of view. Most interesting point of this book is that it has discussed every aspect of Bengali grammar historically and has faithfully represented the original texts consulted by Dr. Bandyopadhyay. To study this book means that intellectually scholars are going to be acquainted with the growth and development of the contents of Bengali grammar. The rarest quality of this book is the amalgamation of the opinions of different European Bengali grammarians like Halhed, Carey, Yates. Most of their books are rare, not even always available in all the libraries of Calcutta. Dr Bandyopadhyay has painstakingly laboured much to accumulate all the facts in one place and systematised them in such a way that it has become almost a new research work in the domain of Bengali grammatical study.
