The present volume entitled "Facets of Iridology" is in commemoration of Mahamahopadhyaya Pandit Damodar Mohapatra Sastri, an illustrious and erudite philosopher of Orissa. This volume contains reminiscences and poetic compositions to pay their tribute to esteemed Mm. Pt. Damodar Mohapatra Sastri.
The research articles numbering 56 cover a vast area of current Sanskrit researches in different branches of Sanskrit viz. Veda & Vedic studies, Grammar, Linguistics, Indian philosophy, Religion, Epics and Puranas, Indian culture, Sanskrit literature, literary criticism, Sanskrit and Science, Ayurveda, Information Technology, Manuscriptology and Jainism.
The extensive study by learned scholars in its totality presents the living tradition of Indian Intellectual persuits which opens up a new dimension of Indological studies.
Dr. Subash Chandra Dash, double Gold medalist from Poona University, a Researcher, creative Writer, both in Oriya and Sanskrit has worked extensively on Nyaya Philosophy, Indian philosophy, Literature, Pali and Buddhism, Manuscriptology, Religion and Indian culture.
He served in the institutions like-Vaidik Samsodhan Mandal, CASS and Deccan college, Pune. He has presented fifty Research papers in National and International conferences.
He has authored six books and has presently working as a Sr. Lecturer in the Department of Sanskrit, Utkal university, Bhubaneswar, Orissa.
It gives me immense pleasure to write a foreword to the commemoration volume of Mahamahopadhyaya Pt. Damodar Sastri of Puri, Orissa. Pt. Sastri was a versatile genious in the field of Sanskrit Learning. He was a luminous son of Orissa and a bright star in the firmament of Sanskrit studies. I am glad to know that a commemoration Committee was formed and decided to bring out the volume in his name.
It is our tradition that the learned one should be respected and honoured. If we fail to do so, it will be a sin on our part. It is befitting to the occasion that such a great personality of Puri is being honoured even after his death in 1975. As he has written thirty-two original books in Sanskrit and Oriya, many are not yet known. Steps should be taken to bring those to the scholars of Indology. It is his significant contribution to the field of Sanskrit and particularly to Indian philosophy that he could write so many original books unfolding the shastric knots to his pupils. Such are the persons of high scholarship do take birth in India and Orissa is being proud of giving birth to an illustrious son like him.
It is befitting on the occasion that, the family members of Sastriji have taken lot of pain in helping Dr. S.C. Dash to bring out such a volume in honour of him.
I congratulate the editor of this volume for publishing such a nice volume for a worthy son of India.
