There is an increasing awareness of the importance of social and political philosophy today, a recognition that without a conceptual grasp of factual details a proper understanding of social and political events must elude an observer.
In this collection of essays philosophers, as well as social scientists, have tried to clarify the basic concepts of social and political philosophy in terms of contemporary findings and historical facts, wherever necessary the concepts have been reviewed in the light of Indian conditions.
The seven sections of the book comprise Scope, Nature and Method of Social and Political Philosophy, some basic Concepts, Some Main Trends, Forms of State change and India and finally, an epilogue which reviews some problems of sociology of Knowledge.
The book should meet the academic requirements of advanced students in our universities. Not only philosophers, but also political scientists, sociologists, and scholars from related disciplines should find it very useful.
