It is a great privilege for me to place before the reading public the monograph, The Endangered Earth: Role of India, by Dr. A. P. Mitra, FRS, Honorary Scientist of Eminence. This monograph is the address of Dr. Mitra as the Abha Maity Memorial Lecture 1997 delivered on 13th April 2003 at the Asiatic Society.
The objective of publishing this monograph is to make the people aware of the impending danger, if not disaster, awaiting them if the present state of affairs in our environment is allowed to drift and no immediate remedial and effective steps are taken to stem the tide. Dr. Mitra in his address touched upon the whole gamut of environmental degeneration.
I am sure this monograph would make people more conscious about their duties to protect and preserve our environment for future mankind.
