Munshi Chandra Bhan Brahman was born in Lahore in 1574-1575 A.D. He was a great Persian poet during the reign of Shahjahan. But his fame chiefly rests on his numerous literary writings in Persian which speak volumes of his excellence as a poet and writer of Persian language. This book will render valuable services to the advancement of knowledge about the poetry and thoughts of a great poet like Chandra Bhan Brahman. This will also cater the need of the lovers of Persian literature too. This work will establish how the non-Muslim poets and writers dedicated their energies and intellect in producing literary works during the Mughal period. The work has been critically edited with numerous historical references.
Munshi Chandra Bhan Brahman was born in Lahore in 1574-1575 A.D. He studied Sanskrit, Hindi, and Persian languages. He was a keen student of Islamic literature. His mastery of the Persian language was admirable. The Mughal Emperor Shahjahan admired him. He was the Chief Secretary of Dara Shikoh, the Emperor's eldest son. It is interesting to note that even the Emperor Aurangzeb liked his Persian poems. Munshi Chandra Bhan Brahman died in Banaras in 1662 A.D.
The book in hand entitled "Diwan-e-Chander Bhan Brahman" (A collection of verses composed by Chander Bhan Brahman) is a research work of Dr. Md. Amin (Aamir). In 1995-96, he completed a course in Manuscriptology in Persian from the Asiatic Society, Kolkata. In course of his study he became well- acquainted with the system of reading various scripts and manuscripts of old Persian and acquired sufficient knowledge of editing original texts with modern technology. Under the above project, he has prepared a critical edition collating three manuscript copies of the Diwan-e-Brahman preserved in the museum of the Asiatic Society.
