Preface
The Organon of Medicine is a scientific treatise written by Dr Samuel Hahnemann and therefore it should be approached with spirit of enquiry that characterizes scientific attitude and not with a feeling of reverence. It contains the principles, rules and regulations for homoeopathic physician which governs the practice homoeopathy. It also contains a complete and exhaustive exposition of Hanemann’s discoveries, experiment and options concerning the healing of the sick.
Organon is a court of appeal and constant help in difficulties. In the study of Organon of Medicine lie directions for the use the application of knowledge of Materia Medica. Without understanding of Organon of Medicine, the study of Materia Medica is useless. Organon Organon is the foundation upon which the structure of homoeopathy has been built, and represented the finger post at the cross roads of the healing art. It is unimaginable to understand homoeopathy without Organon of Medicine.
When I was translating the Boericke’s Materia Medica in our mother tongue Hindi I was shocked by the number of ancient medical terms (obsolete now-a-days) which were not famikiar to me, even though I have completed my graduate course and remains teacher for years. I found myself looking upwards. It was then that the seed was planted to write this book. I did not realize how much nurturing that seed would require.
In my 21 years of teaching experience I realized that to generate interest in Organon of Medicine to undergraduate students, is really skillful job. Either the students take the subject lightly or try to avoid as the language is too hard. So I decide to make this mother subject of homoeopathy easier by providing vocabulary help. Difficult words made easy with modern terms. I am delighted to bring the first edition of this dictionary.
Teacher of teachers Prof. L. M. Khan Sir have said, “Organon can only be perceived as it cannot be learnt”, when he wrote foreword to my earlier book named “Helps to Perceive the Organon”
In order to create this dictionary I have gone through page by page, word by word of so many books of our masters like Dr Hahnemann, Kent, Close Robert, Hughes, Dunham and others.
The etymology for 90% of the main entries is presented in brackets following the entry. The major sources of medical terminology are Latin and Greek.
Obviously this has not been an easy task but it has been a task which for the most part, I have immensely enjoyed. No originality is claimed except its presentation. These matters are collected from Different authoritative sources and presented in a simplified form.
I am grateful to my wife Neetu for her constant help and encouragement.
I feel pleasure to respectably remember my learned friend Prof. (Dr) Pradeep Gupta, MD (Organon of Medicine),MD (Repertory), MD (Materia Madica) director Naiminath homoeopathic Medical College & Research Center, Agra; Dr Anirudh Verma, member CCH, (Govt. of India); Dr Parthsarthi Sharma (Guinness Book of World Record Holders); Prof. (Dr.) Rajan Singh Sood, principle, each and every staff member and student of R. V. Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Dabok every one of them were a source of encouragement to me.
I extend my sincere thank to Mr. Sumit Varshney of Medico Refresher Publications who have taken sincere and dedicated effort, without whose support this dictionary may not have been the light of the way.
I will welcome suggestions and constructive criticism from my readers, students and teacher colleague of Organon of Mediciine on this work so that I can improve on my deficiencies.
