The present survey aims at the study of several aspects of "The Development of Mysore State from 1940 to 1956." This was a period when great political changes took place in the history of Mysore. The Princely State of Mysore became a Democratic State. Jayachamaraja Wodeyar who ascended the throne of Mysore as the Maharaja, identified himself with the mainstream of its culture and directed ship of the State ably to a haven of political stability, economic prosperity, social homogeneity and cultural progress The progress of Mysore State during this period is really interesting. In fact, the history of the Mysore State during this period is almost the history of Jayachamaraja Wodeyar and therefore in this survey much importance is given to his early life, education, coronation ceremony, and his achievements. Mysore, like any other State in India, has passed through several vicissitudes of political fortunes and misfortunes since 1610 when Raja Wodeyar laid the foundation for the emergence of Mysore Kingdom. But in spite of these vicissitudes there has been a continuity in the progress of the State and the problem of the Development of Mysore State from 1940-56 have not yet received much attention. Therefore an attempt has been made to examine some of the problems relating to the development of the Mysore State.
