I have immense pleasure to present this Volume II of the Catelogue of manuscripts of the Vishveshvaranand Vishva Bandhu Institute of Sanskrit and Indological Studies, Panjab University, Sadhu Ashram, Hoshiarpur (Punjab), in hands of the learneds and lovers of Sanskrit and Oriental heritage of India as well as the world. The first Volume of the Catalogue of the Manuscripts of this Institute was brought out by Prof. Dr. B.R. Sharma, The then Director, in 1975 after about ten years of the establishment of this Institute on 1.7.1965. The first Volume contained descriptions of 1736 Manuscripts relating to various subjects of Sanskrit and Indology in Devanagari, Granth, Malayalam and Sharda scripts on country made paper, palmleaves and Bhurjapatras.
The present Volume II contains the descriptions of 939 manuscripts relating to different subjects of Sanskrit and Indology. There are 923 manuscripts in Devanagari, one in Bengali, 7 in Sharda, 3 in Pabuchi (a script prevailing in Sirmaur and Jubal regions of Himachal Pradesh), one in Telugu, 3 in Gurumukhi and one in Granth script. These all manuscripts are on paper.
I am thankful to Dr. Govind Singh Lamba, Patiala and the Director, V.V.R. Institute, Hoshiarpur for their contribution of Manuscripts to this collection. I am also thankful to Prof. G.C. Ojha, Shri Duni Chandra Sharma (retired as Assistant Curator), Dr. Ghanashyam Uniyal Reader and Dr. Krishna Murari Sharma, Senior Lecturer for their time to time guidance, given to Dr. Ramesh Chander, Manuscript Assistant, in cataloguing work.
I am heartily thankful to the national archives, Government of India, New Delhi for their grants of Rs. 55000 (Fifty-five thousands) for Cataloguing, Laminations and preservation works etc. of the manuscripts belonging to this Institute.
I am similarly grateful to the authorities of the Panjab University for maching grant of Rs. 18333 (Eighteen thousand three hundred thirty-three) for the preservation works of the manuscripts.
I wish all the best of Dr. Ramesh Chander for his assistance in the cataloguing and preservation works of the manuscripts.
I am also thankful to Sh. Lalit Mohan Chadha of this Institute and the Manager and staff of M/s. Manooja Offset Works, Jalandhar City for their pains-taking labour in the publication work of this catalogue.
