Lam very happy to announce the publication of the third volume of RIHN’s Indus Project Series here. We have excavated two places in India on behalf of Indus Project, Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto, Japan. One is at Kanmer, Kachchh, Gujarat with Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Udaipur led by Jeewan Singh Kharakwal and Department of Archaeology, State Government of Gujarat led by YS. Rawat. The other is at Farmana, Rohtak, Haryana with Deccan College, Pune led by Vasant Shinde.
We have already published the first season's report of excavation at Kanmer in the book indus Civilization: Text and Context and the report of exploration in the Ghaggar River basin and the first season’s report of excavation at Girwad, Mithathal and Farmana in the first volume of our RIHN’s Indus Project Series.
Jeewan Singh Kharakwal of Institute for Rajasthan Studies, JRN Rajasthan Vidyapeeth has written the second season’s report of excavation in Kanmer with Y.S. Rawat of Department of Archaeology, the State Government of Gujarat and me in the season of 2006-7. I am personally very pleased to recover the micro beads in the pottery and to find a stone-made wall. The gate of citadel is still missing. I hope we will find it in the future work.
P.P. Joglekar and Pankaj Goel of Deccan College have reported on the fauna analysis at Kanmer and Professor Rajaguru of Deccan College has contributed a preliminary report of the geological issues. For our project these analysis are very important to understand the environmental problems in the period of Indus civilization. We would like to continue making efforts to collect such data in the forthcoming season’s excavation.
Peter Underhill of Stanford University, who is one of the most famous human geneticists, has contributed a paper on DNA analysis of human genetics. This paper is the revised version which was presented at the Harvard-RIHN Roundtable in 2005. I would like to express our sincere thanks to all contributors. In the end I thank Akinori Uesugi for his painstaking efforts in bringing out a volume of such fine Quality.
