Prof. Vasant Shinde is a versatile personality in the field of archaeology. He is an eminent archaeologist, academician and an international personality and authority on Indian archaeology. He has contributed immensely to archaeology for the past 40 years. Over the years he has strengthened Indian archaeology by guiding students from various institutes in India and abroad. These students are from different disciplines and specialize in different branches of archaeology.
Dr. Prabodh Shirvalkar is an Assistant Professor in Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Deemed to be University, Pune. He specializes in Harappan studies and Chalcolithic cultures. He has directed excavations at Kotada Bhadli in Gujarat and Chirand in Bihar. He was Co-Director of excavations at Jawasiya, Chatrikhera and Pachamata in Rajasthan. Dr. Prabodh Shirvalkar has authored 1 book and has published 45 articles in national, international journals and edited books.
Dr. Esha Prasad is a Visiting Faculty in the Department of Anthropology, Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and Symbiosis Centre for Liberal Arts, Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune. Her interests are in Harappan and Chalcolithic cultures. She has worked on Chalcolithic cultures of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. She has published articles in national, international journals and edited books.
It is a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction to have this opportunity to write a foreword to this Felicitation volume "Culture, Tradition and Continuity: Disquisitions in Honour of Prof. Vasant Shinde" edited by Prabodh Shirvalkar and Esha Prasad. The Felicitation volume contains research papers which is being presented to Dr. Vasant Shinde as a token of appreciation of his monumental work in archaeology in general and proto-history in particular.
