This volume is a humble attempt to present many of the unexplored and hitherto neglected Sakti-shrines of South Odisha in a critical, compact and comprehensive manner. The main concern of the book is to study and highlight the every bit of information available regarding the origin, rites and rituals, fairs, festivals and paintings associated with Sakti cult of southern part of Orissa. Epigraphical records literary sources and even folk lore were utilized for the construction of this work. For the research scholars and teachers this book will provide a new insight for further research on religion and religious history of Orissa in general and Sakti cult in particular. Hope this book will appreciate by the students, tourist, Government officials and general readers as well.
Born in 1967 in the village kandupudar near Aska of Ganjam district in Odisha. Dr. Pramod Kumar Choudhury obtained his M.A degree in History in 1991 from Berhampur University and awarded Ph.D. degree in History in 2020 by the same university. He has been serving as a Lecturer in History since 4.11.1992 in the Anchalika Degree Mahavidyalaya, Jagannath Prasad of Ganjam district. At present he is serving as the Head of the Department of the History in same college. Dr. Choudhury is a life member of many academic bodies like Orissa History Congress, South Orissa History Society, Ghumasar Gabesana Parashad. He has attended no of national, state level seminars, workshops and conferences. To his credit Dr. Choudhury has published no of research papers in the journals proceedings and books national and international repute.
