Book Description
Introduction

Vedas are timeless and ageless, and there have been V ample references to the cows as celestial beings, in the Vedas and Upanishads. So the natural corollary is, that cows and cow worship too has no date put on it! It has been going on from time immemorial and cows definitely are a celestial gift from God to man!

This book is primarily a study of the different facets of Man-cow relationship which is especially complex in a country like India. The original objective was to only focus on the legal perspective and the laws related to cows. But in the process of grazing through the journey of a cow, we, the authors were speechless and flabbergast to know more and more about this celestial being. This book is our humble attempt to share this fodder of knowledge with the citizens of India and the world, so that it can be chewed and ruminated and absorbed and the ideas prevailing over these complex issues which are a subject matter of reverence for some and ridicule for some, may be better understood.

The Rig Veda calls the cow 'Aghaya' (not fit to be killed) and praises it highly. Bull and the cow were the very centre of agricultural society of the Vedic Aryans. Milk and milk products were used in sacrificial rites, indicating the sacred status of a cow. Godhana (gifting of cow), Go-Raksha (Cow protection), and Go-Samvardhan (Services rendered to a cow) are said to take one's soul to 'Goloka', which incidentally means 'World of Light' and not 'world of cow' as is often mistaken. It is supposed to be the highest world, below which are other worlds, like Vaikunta, Kailasa, Swarga (Heaven), Mrityu (Mortal world), and Patal (nether world).

Lord Krishna, fondly known as Gopala, the cowherd, the Divine lover of cows, is supposed to live eternally in Goloka. It is said that even the great Yogis can neither perceive it, nor have access to it. But the simple devotees of Krishna can! Those who go there, live eternally and will never suffer from any disease or disability! Such is the glory of Golok and to access that, the simplest and direct way, according to our scriptures, is simply by giving a cow its due!

The hind part of a cow is considered the most auspicious and all magical things are produced from there, i.e Cow milk, cow urine and cow dung! All these have multi purpose use. Pancha gavya, a mixture of 5 products of cow, has immense medicinal qualities. Use of Gomootra as medicine, finds its reference in standard texts of Ayurveda, like Sushrita Samhita & Ashtanga Sangraha etc. It has been granted at least two US patents! It should not happen that what has been practiced for centuries in India, gets stolen and patented by other nations, for mere want of recognition and understanding and acceptance in our own Nation!

Cow dung is a source of green energy. Developed country like Denmark has adopted it as a main source of energy for the last 25years.
