Indian writing in English, which has unbounded appraisal both in India and abroad, is now in its full swing. It has paved a new path, a new vision that is full of an unswerving faith and hope, myths and traditions, customs and rites that our glorious country has enveloped in its bosom since time immemorial. A deep study of the works of great masters reveals that their works are not mere imitations but highly original and Indian in both theme and spirit. They have given a new dimension to English Literature in the same manner as the Australians, Canadians and Americans have evolved their own literature. Today, English is a heritage not only of England but is also gaining ground all over the world. Our writers feel as comfortable in writing in English as in their mother tongue. They have been quite familiar with the important modern Western literary movements like post-modernism, post-colonialism, feminism, structuralism, etc.
