T he book A Comparative Study of English and Kashmiri Phonology is the result of a number of research studies. The book first discusses the phonological systems of Kashmiri and English separately and in detail. The book then proceeds on to compare the two phonological systems. While discussing Kashmiri phonology, the book looks at the matter from a fresh perspective discussing several issues in the older phonological systems and postulating a newer scientific Kashmiri phonological model. Importantly, the book, apart from adhering to the traditional schema of phonology, also plunges into the most current domain of Optimality, making it the first book to handle Kashmiri, and the comparison from an optimality perspective. The book is aimed for students, teachers and researchers alike.
