The Teachings of the Religion of Islam Can be Divided into two categories - the first which covers knowing this world, it's Creator, and other matters pertaining to one's personal beliefs. These include discussions such as Tawhid (Oneness of Allah), Prophethood, Imamate, matters relating to the Day of Resurrection, etc. these and other topics are covered under the study of Aqa'id or 'Ilm al-Kalam. The second category relates to the daily and practical laws of Islam including those acts that must be performed, and those that a Muslim must stay away from. In reality, these laws and regulations form a Muslim's framework on how he or she should act in daily life around others. It is these laws that lead and guide mankind to perfection in this life. This discussion is referred to as Fiqh.
Thus, for a Muslim to strive towards perfection, in addition to being acquainted with the principles of the Religion, he or she must also have a very good understanding of the "wajibat and muhrammat" of the religion.
The various areas of Fiqh, which thanks to the concept of Ijtihad and which have been under constant development and progressing over the past 1000 years by great scholars such as Shaikh al-Taifah Muhammad ibn 'Ali 'Ameli, and others, have provided the Muslims with a body of law to guide his or her life.
Recently, new books have been written which are compiled according to specific topics. Books such as those detailing the laws of Salat, Fasting, Hajj, Khums, Zakat, etc. have been written, and more recently, book that cover the laws relating to those living in the Western world, rules relating to the deceased.
Muslim, and even the rule and etiquette between husband and wife have been written and translated into various languages.
This book is one of the newer works of Islamic Laws compiled specifically with the Muslim Man and Woman in mind.
The necessity to speak about this topic and to acquaint the Muslims with how they should interact with members of the opposite sex - whether they be Muslim or non-Muslim especially in today's day and age where men and women are interacting more and more with each other - both in schools, the workplace, and at social functions and gatherings was greatly felt. Thus, we found it necessary to translate this book into English, so as to help our fellow Brothers and Sisters who are striving to please Allah (SWT) through their deeds and actions.
This work covers topics such as looking at other people, clothing and covering of the body, socializing and marriage. Although brief, however the information is concise and to the point and we hope that those who are trying to lead a life of spiritual and inner happiness find this book of use.
We pray that this small effort to acquaint the readers with how Muslim Men and Women must interact with one another, as well as others is accepted by Allah (SWT), and that the Prophet and his successors are pleased with our work.
