I am presenting my Christian faith as a philosopher in the light of Western and Indian atheism and value crisis. I would not like to enter into controversies, though issues raised here are all controversial. It is hoped that Christian faith presented here will be helpful to those who have gone through the test, trial and fire of modernism. If others who are still finding the old creed and myths helpful in sustaining them in their hour of personal crisis, then they are advised to cling to them. In matters spiritual that alone is true which elevates, edifies, sustains and establishes a man in his inter-personal relationships in a complex socio-economic world. There is nothing like one true faith and one true Christianity. Religion is not science. There are as many faiths and as many Christian versions as are the psychological and cultural types. However, even when there is not one or more abstract common factor underlying religious issues, there is much criss-crossing of spiritual experience, for men are basically human and in general have the same spiritual hunger. This Indian wisdom should pave the way for much toleration and mutual cooperation. Even Humanism stems forth from the same human basic drive which has given birth to traditional religions.
I am not mentioning the names or the works of the many masters of thoughts, but the informed reader would be able to detect their influence almost in every line of this book. Of course, this book does not pretend to be original in any sense; it is just a philosopher's witness of his faith. Only as such I hope it should be tolerated.
I am quite conscious of the fact that Western thinkers can present their faith and philosophy much better and with far greater expertise than what has been attempted here. But an Indian has to find his moorings and anchorage in his own way. True, many of my brother philosophers do not concern themselves with the subject-matter of my last chapter.
