Book Description

About the Book

The 'Chamatkara-Chandrika' is a rare and unpublished book of Sanskrit Kavya by a great devotee and a scholar poet of the 15th century A.D. named Kavi Karnapura , the disciple of the great Guru Shri Krishna Chaitanya Maha Prabhu, the doyen of the Bhakti movement in the Eastern regions of India. In this Kavya, Kavi Karnapura has described the romantic deeds of the divine couple of Shri Krishna and Radha into some interesting conjugal love of the devout i.e. the deity Krishna, into four Sargas called Kutuhalas. The work is brought from abroad and edited by the eminent Sanskrit scholar and poet Mahamaopadhyaya Prof. Prabhakar Narayan Kawthekar by removing some script errors and has given a scholarly Preface in which he has depicted the great tradition of such free divine romanticism of Sanskrit literature enriched by Jayadeva (Geeta-Govindam), Vidyapati and others in the literary field.

It gives an excellent experience of a devotee who relishes the Samyoga–Saringara of Lord Krishna & Radha. On the basis of his intensive devotion i.e. Bhakti, which gives freedom aesthetically for a devotee to enjoy the conjugal love of the deity without any difficulty. According to Vaishnava Acharya of the medieval period, the Bhakti is fulfledged Rasa and hence Kavi Karnapura means to describe the romantic deeds, to have the main Rasa as the Bhakti. Devotees have been regarding the affairs of Lord Krishna & Radha as the spiritual phenomenon and not merely as physical one and hence such description was never opposed.
