About the Book

Ageing is a natural process that can't be avoided or cured. It is a gentle reminder of the immortality of human beings. The problems arise when our mind refuses to accept the reality of ageing as it is fond of deluding itself with fantasy of its immortality and ever green youth which is not the real fact.

Aging gracefully is merely persuading mind to accept the truth of old age and make necessary emotional readjustments to changing situations, relationships, moderate activities and diet. Dr. B. Chhajer can help you make your olden age a golden page.

Introduction

Ashok was born in 1936 in Delhi. His parents were more than happy to see their first baby. He was just 3 kilos, always sleeping, interrupted by small breast feeds that his mother gave him. He knew nothing about the world, parents or the country he was living. But gradually, he started recognizing his mother, father and other close relatives. As he grew up, he started making happy sounds, small words and then, sentences. As he grew up more, he started playing and was eventually put into school. He passed his class fourth and by that time he knew about his name, parents' address, about his city and country. He was learning very fast. He was good in his studies, always respected his parents and teachers. He was very good in sports too. At the age of 21, he graduated. By that time, he was bubbling with energy, could do any work with confidence, helping and also started in his father's business. At the age of 23, he was married to Asha, who was chosen by his parents with his approval. His business grew very fast as he could work very hard and think well. The family grew with the childrens birth. He was considered a very accomplished person. First time, that he realized of his increasing age was when his daughter's friend aged 15 started calling him 'uncle'. At the age of 45, when his son went to the engineering college, he started using a spectacle to read newspapers. He was working but the ability to tackle emergencies gradually decreased. He came under pressure because of problems in the business. His younger son was not interested in studies. He wanted his elder son to come and join the business and factory. When he got his daughter married, off half of his hairs were already white. His grandson was born when he was 56, off his elder son. His son was a great help and had taken care of the responsibilities in business. He could sleep only six hours. His blood pressure was a bit high. But he was considered very experienced in business. His decisions were very good. People respected him. He also found that he was forgetting small things in daily life, but could distinctly remember all the events of the past. He is now aged 70 and needed help if he wanted to go out of station. His wife had pain in the knees and was little more irritated than before. But, he was happy that he had saved plenty of money which he could spend as he wanted. He went to some trips abroad after the age of 55 with his wife. He became a great follower of Almighty and would love to go to the temple. One thing, he did during his life was to store all his photographs of different ages chronologically. Today, when he sees all the albums of his life one by one, he could visualize how a person progresses from birth till old age. Now, he matched his childhood photo with that of his grandson's; it is a carbon copy of his childhood photo. This book deals with the old age. It is said, as the man grows, he becomes more like a child. It is important for us to take care of the elderly and help them age gracefully. Hope you like this book.
