About the Book These reminiscences of a luminary of our time recount the story of a rural village that became the nerve centre of ayurveda and the history of the growth of indigenous medical system in modern times, along with the eventful account of the awakening of our country to the light of freedom during the last century. They also bring with them the experiences of life of an ordinary citizen hailing from an upcountry village who grew to the status of a world citizen.

Preface Smrtiparvam, an autobiography of Dr. P.K. Warrier in Malayalam, was brought out in print in 2005. Since then there has been a growing demand for an English translation of the work. Our thanks are due to Mrs. Sudha Varier for doing the translation. Dr. V. Sukumaran, an expert Professor in English and a stylist helped us in preparing the press copy. Prof. M.V. Narayanan, spared no pains in copy editing the text with keen interest in the content of the work and the style of translation.

We gladly place on record our indebtedness to Prof. K.G. Paulose, our former Chief Editor in preparing the press copy.

We are immensely thankful to these scholars for their timely help and assistance in bringing out this volume "The Canto of Memories".
