Rabindranath had an inquisitiveness about Buddha the lord. He was extremely influenced by Gautama the Buddha whom he called 'Narottama' and 'Srestha Manava' since "Buddha's struggle to set forth the ideal of non-violence, to communicate the message of selfless and limitless love, kindliness and compassion, not only for human being but for every creature in the world, is unparalleled."
Shri Pulin Bihari Sen compiled some essays and poems of Rabindranath Tagore written at different times on different occasions and those were published by Visva Bharati in a book form titled "Buddhadeva' This monograph is a Sanskrit rendering of the compilation maintaining lucidity of language and appropriateness of expression. Professor Arun Kumar Mondal, formerly the Head of the Department of Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit, Visva Bharati, has rightly written in his 'Purobak' that "qft f जानाति पर्वतस्य भारम् अनुवादको हि जानाति काव्यानुवादस्य काठिन्यम् । ।
Rabindranath is 'Viswakabi'. Many of his works have been translated into multiple regional and foreign languages, Professor Kalpika Mukhopadhyay has taken initiative to add a feather to the flock by rendering the compilation into Sanskrit for communicating the thoughts of the Buddha as understood and interpreted by Rabindranath to the modern Sanskrit-speaking people as well as to the lovers of Sanskrit in India and abroad. I appreciate her endeavour and wish the readers take the book with all attention.
