In this modern world dominated by science and technology, people are disillusioned with the concept of religion. Today's youth in particular, with their inquiring mind, find it difficult to believe in the concept of religion when they can't see any tangible benefit from following a particular faith. They seek empirical evidence about the existence of an ultimate power called God. In school, students are taught to question and make enquiries before they accept anything. Therefore it becomes difficult for them to understand the language of religion based on a belief system.
Prophets in most religions, the enlightened ones like Buddha, Jesus Christ and Mohammad have preached their own experience of their enlightenment, vision, in their own language. Their language itself cannot be precise and provide the real experience of the prophets. This is similar to describing the smell of the flower one experienced to another person who has not. To experience it, one should smell the flower and not listen to another person's description of it. In religious talks, the followers of the prophets and religious scholars amplify the prophets' teachings and even go a bit further emphasizing that this is the best path not only to their followers but also to all humanity to reach heaven or God. Preaching in this manner is done with the best of intentions, but it immediately sets up a fence around each religion and creates conflict between them as to which is the best path to follow. This has even resulted in a number of wars including the present conflicts in the Middle East. It is therefore understandable why today's youth is indifferent to religious teachings.
