53. Sagaraputranam vinasah: Indra steals the horse and takes it to the nether regions near Kapila’s hermitage-Sagara’s sixty thousand sons dig the earth and locate the horse and, taking Kapila to be the thief, insult him-But they are burnt to ashes by the fire emanating from the sage’s eye. 185b
54. Kapilasramasthasvanayanam: Kapila is pacified by the gods-At sage Narada’s advice, prince Amsuman, son of Asamanja, goes to Kapila and gets the horse released-He also gains the boon that his grandson Bhagiratha would bring down the divine Ganges from the heavens to wash the ashes of Sagara’s sons and thus emancipate them. 187a
55. Amsumato rajyapraptih: Sagara completes the horse-sacrifice and installs Amsuman as crown prince. 188a
56. Ganganayanam: Engulfment, by the sea, of the dug-out portion of the earth-Greatness of the Gokarna region-The sages of Gokarna approach Parasurama, who was performing penance in Mt.
