Preface
The death of Sri Z. A. Ansari in 1999 was an irreparable loss to the teaching faculty of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Institute of Astrology and to the world of Astrology. He was a quiet, unassuming, non-aggressive person with rare insight into astrology.
My 1978 Contact More than anyone, I knew it very well since 1978 when posted in the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. I met him often because he was service in the same office, and on the same floor. In 1978, he already had deep experience of predicting successfully for nearly fifteen years which is what no other well known astrologer in Delhi could have boasted of. In 1999, when he wrote this book, he had behind him thirty five years of rich experience of a brilliant predictive career with a rich background of Hindu religious traditions and Samskaras, better than many Hindu astrologers. And remember that he was a Muslim.
His original researches Those days he was doing more of Krishnamurthy Paddhati though he was so deep into Parashari astrology having picked it up from his early boyhood in his village of Bihar. He had become a real expert in prashna astrology then,.
Later, he did very brilliant researches in vargas as is evident from this book. He prepared himself very well to equip himself to answer questions about marriage and children which is what people in India ask almost eighty per cent times. He went much deeper than any other astrologer by doing research into various aspects of marriage, its timing, its quality, its tensions. He has shared some of these in this book.
Had he been alive what more valuable researches he might have given to the world of astrology is for us to guess now.
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan He was associated with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Astrology from the month of July 1987 when it was started with a modest number of about forty students which he saw cross five hundred before his death. He was a very successful teacher who in his classes sometimes did drop valuable predictive hints.
Teacher of teachers He had translated some from English into Hindi but had not produced any original work. I sometimes felt because the students he had taught, K. S. Charak, Col. A. K. Gaur, Shiv Raj Sharma (1989 batch), M. S. Mehta, S. Ganesh, Deepak Kapoor, K. K. Joshi (1990 Batch) and other had come out wit their books while he, a teacher of teachers, had yet to produce one. These students with maximum eight years of astrology (in 1999) compared to his nearly three decades of experience would outshine him was a feeling he may have nurtured within him. I thought of experience would outshine his was a feeling he may have nurtured within him. I thought and advised him to launch into vigorous authorship with his experience, great astrological insight and best of all, a brilliant predictive record. He heeded my advice but so late that he could complete only one book before death took him away. That is the irreparable loss I speak of.
His predictions Some of his predictions marked him out as outstanding but he never talked about it because he had rare humility and modesty. We came to know of it sometimes from some of his admirers. Let me give two, among many, instances here.
1. In North India, a woman having only daughters and no son suffers from some inferiority complex, an irrational legacy of feudal and agricultural days when a son added to labour force and could also be a soldier during wars. One such woman approached Ansari and asked him whether she would ever have a son. He rightly examined the horoscope of her husband also and told her that her next child would be a son. And, as he had predicted, a son was born to her. She came to him place before him her bank cheque book and asked him to name any amount which he wanted and she would pay it. Ansari returned the cheque book to her and asked her never to talk of payment otherwise he would not be available to her for consultation ever in future.
2. Once in 1991, when we had a big astrology conference, crankish fellow from Chandigarh came with his horoscope in the conference hall and showed it turn by turn to all astrologers he could catch hold of and challenged them to tell about his source of earning. Other astrologers struggled and failed. But Ansari looked at it and said that he would serve in a hotel in the music section. He was surprised because he was surprised because he was a bandmaster in a hotel.
How this book came to be written Sometimes in 1999, I told a batch of research students that I would not teach their classes since they were not writing and doing any research but were coming to my class only to get my own data and discuss them.
To help those students Ansari conducted the class for some weeks and told me that he did not have any better experience. He had to bring his own data and discuss them in the class after classes.
Since he had such an unpleasant experience, I asked him to take it up and write a series of articles for the Journal of Astrology which he did. I wanted him to concentrate on writing books giving some of his researches. He did not have a gift for writing but was an excellent translator from English to Hindi. He wrote very welling Hindi but had to be helped when he wrote in English. In writing these articles he did take some he wrote in English. In writing these articles he did take some people's help but the entire research is his and his only.
This book is the edited version of those articles and gives those rare insight into marital problems which very few astrologers know. Ansari would look at the horoscope of couples and say at a glance the degree of their compatibility, the points of acrimony and harmony. He predicted the widowhood of women with almost unerring timing in many cases.
Naturally, he says that tallying of horoscopes based only on the Moon is very defective and partially correct only. He gives valuable hints about it. He very rightly emphasizes the importance of Shukra Kundali because he knew the importance of Venus in maritial affairs. Affliction to the second and eight house was that he never missed and he reappraised it by examining the navamsha first independently, then together with the birth horoscope and finally the navamsha lords of the seventh and eighth lords to come to his very sound judgement most of the time.
I do not know of any other astrologer who had such un-unerring insight insight into marital tensions. He even knew whether they were resolvable or not.
Based on this, he proceeds further to show which marriage would be long lived and happy and which would not, which will have tensions and why?
This book so well illustrated should be read and reread many times to understand the hints Ansari gives between the lines in this very valuable book.
Wise students will know how to take the fullest advantage from this book.
