This is a story of four boys who came together in a hostel in a school in Shimla. They had very different backgrounds. One boy was a son of a govt. servant. His parents opted for just one child. They felt that with their limited resources they could do full justice to one child only. They did look after him well tell circumstances forced them to send their son to this boarding school in Shimla.
Another boy came from a similar background though he had an elder sister. Children were given a lot of attention in his home. This resulted in their doing well in studies. He had to be sent to this school because his father was transferred to a small town where there were no quality schools.
The third boy came from a business family. He was sent away be- cause he was not paying proper attention to his studies, and needed a strict environment of a boarding school in order to learn discipline.
The fourth boy was a son of a police officer. This man was very strict with his children. There was not much communication between him and his son. Rather than paying attention to his son's education, he believed in admonishing him. When this did not work, the boy was sent to this school in Shimla with a hope that things would change for better.
These four children became good friends, while living in close quarters in the hostel. The proficient ones improved further and the other two also picked up. After completing their school education, they went their separate ways. One became an engineer and went to America. Another joined his father's business after finishing his education. The third became a musician and the last one became a teacher in a college.
