The Doctrine of Bheda i.e., difference is the keynote of Dvaita Metaphysics. The Central principle of Dvaita metaphysics is the conception of a Supreme, independent and perfect principle i.e., God Visnu. The reality of the World and the Individual souls are the other two tenets. These three, viz. the Supreme God, the Jivas and the Jagat are different from one another. The Supreme God is an independent and perfect being, while Jivas and Jagat are entirely dependent upon Him. This position can be maintained only by conceiving difference between the Supreme God and the other two. Among the other two viz., Jivas and Jagat, the Jivas are Chetana i.e. sentient while the Jagat is Jada i.e., non-sentient. This position also can be maintained only by conceiving difference between these two. It is also clear by experience and observation that the Jivas are mutually different and the various entitites in the world are also different. Therefore, an understanding of the Universe, assigning a proper position to the Supreme God, Jivas, and Jagat necessarily involves an understanding of the basic difference among these. To know the true nature of each, one has to understand the difference among them.
