Book Description
About The Book

Show me anyone who sought refuge in me and it was futile." This is Baba's promise, and he fulfilled it then and continues to do so even today.

Everyone deals with crises in their lives that could be professional or personal. At such times some turn to their Guru or God to give them comfort and peace of mind, while others turn to spiritual books for solace and solutions.

This book comprises a wide range of leelas that describe how devotees over the ages have sought refuge in Baba, and Baba has kept his promise at all times. The book speaks of how Baba delved in the centre of his devotees' hearts and empathised with them. With his 'all-knowing, all-pervasive and all-embracing' qualities he helped them irrespective of who they were. It is comforting for us to know that another promise that he fulfilled after 1918 is that he is immortal and comes to the aid of his devotees even today.

About the Author

Vinny Chitluri was born in Arvankadu (Nilgaris) and was educated in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. She did her post graduation in paediatrics from Kalavati Saren Hospital, Delhi. She then went to the U.S., and was conferred the 'Diplomat of the American Academy of Pediatrics' on passing the board examination.

While in the U.S., she reflected on the karmic bonds with her family. Her father worshipped Baba and she too has been doing so for over 60 years. Her relationship with Baba is that of a 'best friend' who loves her unconditionally.

She retired from the medical profession at the age of 50 and went to Shirdi in 1994 and settled there. Then she set about trying to know more about Baba. She soon realised that 'the more she learned about him the more ignorant she felt.' It would take many lives to understand this incredible God, and so her quest is an ongoing one.

Preface

A miracle or leela is defined as an extraordinary event believed to be the work of God or a saint. It is the manifestations of a living God and Baba is eternal. According to the definition, Baba performed miracles throughout the day and night then, and is doing so even now. Because, in every person's life some unbelievable, inscrutable event occurs that leaves an indelible impression on them. Thus, numerous sceptics became believers, and believers became ardent devotees.

Baba often asked his devotee to read religious texts and the lives of numerous saints, so that they could read and learn from their leelas and stories. Thus they could imbibe qualities that he liked, such as humility, devotion and complete surrender.

Leelas are like doing japa because you meditate while reading and are quite unaware of what is happening around you. Leelas enrich your spiritual life. It's a good way to start and end your day.

During my 60 years of devotion to Baba, I met numerous devotees who read one chapter of the Shri Sai Satcharita consecutively every day. I liked the idea very much, so I thought why shouldn't the devotee read a leela every day. I decided to date the leelas rather than give the days of the week; hence, this book can be read every year including the leap year. The leelas cover a wide range of issues that we face in our everyday lives.

Throughout the years many devotees have asked me to write about those people who were fortunate to have met Baba; hence, the first part of the book is dedicated to those devotees and their experience with Baba. The rest of the leelas cover a wide range of subjects, such as humour, compassion, stubbornness and empathy. This gives us a glimpse of the numerous facets of Baba's human side which is wrapped in divinity.

When I was writing this book I got a glimpse of how Shirdi was during the early 1900s and how Baba interacted with his devotees. And how no devotee was sent away empty handed. Even today, no devotee returns empty handed after visiting Shirdi. Finally, Baba has never failed to run to the aid of a devotee. Nor has a devotee ever been cast by the wayside after seeking refuge in him, and these leelas have gone to prove exactly this.
