Reputed hypnotherapists and researchers in hypnosis Dr. Jayant Balaji Athavale and Dr. (Mrs.) Kundä Jayant Athavale founded ‘The Indian Society for Clinical Hypnosis and Research’ in 1982. With twenty-five years of medical practice as Hypnotherapists behind them, The Indian Journal of Clinical Hypnosis and Research, Vol. I-V (1983-87) has been the fruit of their joint editorial enterprise, which has been extremely well received among the medical fraternity in India and abroad.
Credited with devising novel methods of Hypnotherapy, like the Psychofeedback, the Response substitution technique, Nipping the response chain in the bud, etc., the duo graduated in Medicine from the Grant Medical College, Mumbal. Proceeding for further studies, Dr. Jayant had his sojourn in Britain from 1971 to 1978 and Dr. Kundá from 1974 to 1977. The publication of ‘Science of Hypnosis’, a number of articles in research journals, over 75 popular articles from 1982 to 1984 alone and numerous presentations at national and international conferences are the result of their versatile medical practice and diligent research reflected by the nearly 50% cure rate of the ten thousand psychiatric patients treated by them.
In addition to imparting theoretical and practical knowledge of the science of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy to over 500 doctors over the last fifteen years, the couple is also credited with pioneering research illustrating that ‘Eosinophilia’ can be caused by psychological factors.
Since 1990, the twosome has undertaken extensive research on Spirituality arid since 1995 dedicated themselves frilly to the spread of Spirituality. Dr. Jayant founded the Sanâtan Sansthâ, which teaches Spirituality in a scientific manner. He has also compiled with Dr. Kundâ over 35 books on Spirituality. The burgeoning following of the Sanatan Sansthâ is indicative of the growing response of the society to it and Spirituality.
After doing research in the field of hypnotherapy for nearly twenty-five years, we felt that the purpose of our endeavours would be fulfilled if we compiled all the knowledge we had acquired in this sphere in the form of a book. The ‘Personality Defect Model discussed in this book has been devised by us.
This book shall certainly prove to be useful to physicians, psychiatrists as well as the general public to some extent as it explains the techniques of hypnotherapy and the methods formulating suggestions in a simple yet systematic manner.
To facilitate comprehension of the subject by the common w we have at the outset discussed the structure and function of the rind and personality. This is followed by a discussion on the x-.±e of onset of a mental disorder and details of treatment using the techniques of hypnotherapy. Further, the common and special techniques of hypnotherapy are described and their use in different medical specialities is discussed. Details such as the course, duration, cost, etc. of treatment are also dealt with. The concluding chapter describes the superiority of this therapy above others.
If hypnotherapy is practised appropriately based on the principles explained in this book, it will assist in making one’s personality healthier and enable one to become happy. Once the personality becomes healthy it is easier to make rapid spiritual progress and achieve an ideal personality by practising Spirituality. F:: eater details on spiritual practice, our books on the ‘Science :f Spirituality’ will prove handy. We hope this endeavour shall p.pu1arise hypnotherapy at the grass root level and also facilitate is development as a superspeciality in India as well as abroad.
