This little volume presents to the world of scholars two Buddhist philosophical tracts-the Arayasinirakaraga and the Samanyadasaya first published in the Bibliotheca Indica series under the editorship of MM Haraprasad Sastrin. While. editing the Ratnakirtinibandhävalt under the auspices of the K. P. Jayaswal Research Institute, the undersigned discovered the two tracts among the photographs of manus cripts brought by Mahapandita Rahula Sankrityayana from Tibet. On examination the text available here was found correct and dependable. The then authorities of the Insti- tute took up a fresh edition and entrusted the editing work to the undersigned. A thorough comparison between the printed and newly discovered texts has offered some concrete results. A lacunae in the initial verse of the Avayavinira karana could be filled up. Doubts could be removed where MM Sastrin's MS was not clear. And lastly, it could be ascertained that Samanyadüsanadikprasarita supposed to be the title of one of the tracts is really a sentence giving the concluding remark of the author. The correct sentence in our MS reads iti samanyasiddhidüsana dik prasadhita meaning -thus the path of refutation of the establishment of univer- sals has been cleared. As such, some change in the title had to the accepted in the present edition. After the press copy was prepared and submitted for publication in 1967, the undersigned was fortunate enough to receive through the courtesy courte of Dr. Gokpikamohan Bhattacharya, Professor and Head of the Department of Sanskrit. Kuruk- shetra University, the emendations suggested by their Guru- deva, Dr. Satkari Mookerjee in the texts in question. The emendations corroborate the readings in our manuscript.
