As I View Myself is the English translation of Dr. K.M. George's autobiography in Malayalam, Enne Njan Kanumbol which is much more than life writing. It is an academic document containing the history of the growth of an erudite scholar during a significant period of India's cultural history. This multilingual scholar's priority, as he viewed himself down the memory lane, was the usefulness of his autobiography as an academic reference to generations of researchers and littérateurs. Hence, As I View Myself is an autobiography that the author consciously merged with a subtly annotated bibliography.

K.M. George (1914-2002) was a literary scholar whose works continue to be an invaluable reference source for researchers and all those who are interested in Indian Literature. He has made commendable contributions to Malayalam language as professor, author and editor. More importantly, he was a great promoter of Indian literature and languages. Author of many books in English and Malayalam including A Survey of Malayalam Literature, Western Influence on Malayalam Language and Literature, Ramacharitham and the Study of Early Malayalam, Munthiricharu etc. he used his academic acumen, throughout his life, for the realization of the dictum - Indian Literature is one written in many languages. He translated, compiled and edited, in English and Malayalam, not only creative writings in the various regional languages but also critical studies of those works, and presented a substantial data of Indian writings. The authenticity and reference value of these works, published by Kendra Sahitya Akademi, Kerala Sahitya Academy, National Book Trust etc. have been confirmed by their multiple editions and continued use by thousands of scholars. A pioneer of comparative literature studies, Dr. George was a recipient of Padma Shri (1988), Padma Bhushan (2001), Ezhuthachan Puraskaram (1996) the highest literary award given by Govt. of Kerala, Kerala Sahitya Akademy Fellowship (1989), Emeritus Fellowship from the Central Govt., and many other awards.
