Dr. K. Guru Rajesh has been into the field of astrology since his teens. He contributed many articles to journals and magazines on the subject. He believes in a judicial mixing of tradition and research as the way for the progress of the science.
A doctorate holder in Geology by qualification, Dr. Rajesh is also an accomplished artist and trained musician in Carnatic classical music. His other interests include classical poetry in Telugu and Sanskrit.
All this started around 1997-98 when I was in my 18-19 years of age. I was initiated into the fascinating world of Jyotisha or Vedic astrology by my guru who taught me the basics and the method of casting horoscope using almanacs and ephemeris. Use of computers was not prevalent then and most of the calculations were to be done manually. After these initial lessons my guru said that he has just brought me near the path of Jyotisha and it is up to me to surge ahead by studying the vast literature available on the subject. It has been almost 20 years by now and still I feel myself a novice in this divine subject. In course of my study and practice of astrology I started writing articles for the now-defunct Astrological Magazine where my first article was published in the year 2003. This continued with the journal Modern Astrology, the successor of the Astrological Magazine.
Encouraged by the positive response received by my books 'SARFAROSH' and 'RASI TULYA VATSARA DASA' (e-book edition) published in 2015 and 2016 respectively, I got the idea of compiling my articles published so far. This book contains eighteen articles printed in various astrological journals starting from 2003 to 2017. Initially I was using Raman Ayanamsa and hence the first seven articles contain charts calculated using Raman Ayanamsa. The rest of the papers have charts calculated using Lahiri Ayanamsa. Some of the papers have been shared in the social media and on my blog and received wide appreciation. Though some articles are the outcome of my research which may not have immediate applicability, most of them deal with applied aspects of Vedic astrology. Hence I chose the present title for this book.
The papers presented here deal with a variety of topics. The book starts with the first article where the moral, ethical and philosophical background for astrology is explained in the light of the teachings of Srimad Bhagavadgita. The second paper is built upon the cardinal concept of the Sun as the natural Atmakarka and shows a simple method to broadly determine the profession of a native.
The author Dr. K. Guru Rajesh is a new generation astrologer who has shown exceptional skill in exploring traditional techniques of predictive astrology from refreshingly different angles. His high academic qualifications, there is little doubt, appear to have helped him hone his analytical and synthesizing methods to near perfection in understanding and bringing out the finer aspects of astrological principles enshrined in classical works.
The author has dealt with several interesting topics of relevance today through the prism of planetary factors in their application to different events and situations. His treatment of the rarely openly discussed topics of homosexuality, paedophiles and rape bring to the fore simple but highly effective guidelines in identifying such orientation and deviant behavior from the horoscope. In fact, it would do well for every family as also the police department to familiarize themselves with these guidelines which could enable them to be alert to such individuals within one's own family and circle of friends and relatives so that they can ensure no one falls prey to their abnormal urges. Likewise, the author's contention that Guru-Chandala Yoga need not always be deemed bad but can also produce good results through apt illustrations needs to be given serious thought. Several other topics related to matters that one faces in day to day life are critically analysed astrologically.
Chandrakala Nadi, also known as Devakeralam, is a system of prediction based on slightly differing rules, and was for the first time in the past few decades, brought out in separate English translations by two senior scholars, the late C.S.Patel and the late R. Santhanam. The author gives this text considerable space in this volume trying to decode it with his own interpretation based on a detailed study of the general rules and also presents horoscopes, which he avers are ingrained in the original but which were perhaps either not identified or simply ignored by the earlier translators, opening up thereby an area of debate and discussion for the interested in the astrology community.
