Introduction The major focus of this chapter is on quantification of the economic and business costs of selected chronic diseases when managed through Ayurveda and conventional system of medicine (Allopathy). It estimates current costs and lost productivity in some most common medical conditions (musculoskeletal disorders, neurological conditions, gastro intestinal disorders, respiratory disorders, migraine, sinusitis, diabetes, obesity, dermatological disorders and gynecological disorders) managed through Ayurveda and Allopathy health care. Along with the discussion on costs, the chapter also covers the influence of states(Kerala and Karnataka) and socio-economic factors like age, gender, occupation, educational status and area; on awareness and choice of health systems. Renowned healthcare centers of Allopathy and Ayurveda in Mysore District of Karnataka and Ernakulum District of Kerala states were selected for the study.

Methodology and Data Sources for the Study Data Source Primary data was collected from patients and healthcare professionals of selected healthcare centers of Ayurveda and Allopathy through field visits during August 2014 to August 2015.
