India had produced countless sages of various statures and various degrees of power. Some like Atri, Parashuram, Jaratkaru and Gautam are among the most powerful. Shounak, Shameek, Shilad or Astik are not quite that powerful. Several sages used to have wives and sons, and were family men. A few like Jaratkaru were not keen on marriage. Ashtavakra, on the other hand, was in love! Most of them like Gautam and Parashuram were hot-tempered and even vengeful. But some like Utank and Shilad were gentle. The sages of Naimisharanya even liked to hear stories! Apart from sages, there were learned men (like Vedapriya and Vishnu Sharma) in scholarly pursuits.
