AMARTASYA PUTRAH: An Advaitic Encounter with Globalism and Postmodernism is partly a fulfillment of my quest for ancient Indian wisdom initiated by my uncle late Pt. Ram Karan Pandey at my village - Maindipur in Jaunpur, eastern U.P. This quest received further impetus during the years of my higher studies in Philosophy and Ideology at the universities of Allahabad, Varanasi, Münster and Hamburg. I have had the privilege of being well acquainted with both traditions, Indian as well as Western. Globalization postulates the emergence of the world community linked with the concept of progressive modernization of all societies under the aegis of Western political, economic and scientific ideas. Under the new world order globalization means liberalization and mercerization of everything. Postmodernism as a contemporary intellectual movement adopts a deconstructive critique of reason privileging Dionysian irrationality, irregularity, disharmony and madness in place of Apollonian emphasis on order, form, control, regularity, harmony and beauty. The method of deconstruction insists on the dispersed, hetrogeneous charactor of historical episodes and 'cultural language games' and supports a pragmatics of 'language particles' and politi cal activity only in patches-local determinism. Civilizations are not the accidents of history, they are manifestations of human spirit's search for harmony, unity and synthesis. The Hindu vision offers enormous possibilities to modern man who seems to be deeply afflicted with the strange disease of sick hurry and divided aims. Heidegger admits that Europe, the cape and brain, must first become 'the land of sunset', from which the morning of another world history may prepare to dawn. J.L. Mehta's suggestion is prophetic that the Upanișadic tradition of India can perhaps; contribute more substantially towards the preparation of a new dawn than has seemed possible so far. Amrtasya Putraḥ seeks to unravel the promise of this brilliant dawn for the entire humanity with its twin methods of yajña and yoga which can unfold the subtle layers of human subjectivity culminating into the realization of the cosmic Absolute. The present volume consists of my fourteen articles on the various problems of philosophy, religion, yajña,yoga including the validity and philosophy of Indian mythologies.
