I am thankful to God for the gracious help granted to me to bring out this book. It was my dream to publish text books for theological students on the four Old Testament subjects which I have been teaching for many years, and which are Senate required BD courses to serve as guide books for theological students. As it would be rather thick to bring the four subjects into one book, I have made the Book into Volume I and Volume II, and combined the four course subjects - two subjects each in Part I and Part II in both Volumes and entitled the Book:
Theological students are in great need to have guide books in each subject of the courses specially those who do their study under the Senate of Serampore College (University). Particularly at this moment of crisis owing to Covid 19 pandemic since 2020, it is not possible to open the college keeping students in the college campus, as such it is not possible for them to use library books, hence students are in great need of text books. I am thankful to Christian World Imprints for publishing the two-Volume books of Old Testament subjects to cater to the need of theological students.
Civilizations began and flourished long before the appearance of Abraham in history. However, we do not really know where civilization began, but we can trace that it began in the very ancient centers of culture in Egypt, in the river valleys of Mesopotamia and in the Palestine itself which will be brought out in the following.
From early times, at least as early as 5000 BCE, various settlements can be traced along the river Nile. They were making fine pottery and using copper. With boats made of papyrus they sailed on the river. The smaller settlements were unified into two states: Upper Egypt whose symbol was lotus and Lower Egypt whose symbol was the papyrus reed. These two symbols were woven together and a united kingdom was formed. This was a pre-dynastic period. After this unity the first great period of Egypt came about 2700-2200 BCE. This was the age of Pyramids. During these years Egypt was engaged in trade with Syria and Palestine and possibly even controlled these lands politically.
