Afloat in the Atlantic captures the journey of Gangadhar Gadgil from a magnificent Italy to a Mystical France and 'happening' USA while ending in Japan the land of the rising sun. What emerges is a classic travelogue in which the historical beauty and the archaeological charms of a place often enter into the realm of the traveller's existence deeply enriched by his interpretations of these lands. Gangadhar Gadgil (1923-2008), one of the finest Marathi writers donned several hats-that of a literatteur, academician and the economist. He enriched Indian Literature with his short stories, novels and plays, travelogues and essays. Among the numerous recognitions he won were the Abhiruchi Award (1949), Maharashtra State Award (1956 and 1957), Sahitya Akademi Award for his autobiographical work Eka Mungiche Mahabharata in 1996. He served as Vice President of the Sahitya Akademi from 1988-93.
