Swami Kuvalayananda published his first yoga-Mimamsa issue in 1924 and wrote:
“Thought the organizer will, from time to time be writing articles bearing on the research work of the Asrama, in Indian and foreign papers and periodicals, it is necessary that the Asrama should have its own organ publishing systematically its own researches. It is, therefore, decided to start a Quarterly called the ‘YOGA-MIMAMSA” from October 1924, under the auspices of the Institute. Each number will cover 80pp. of the demy8vo size including 16 full pages illustrations. The matter will appear under three sections. The ‘scientific section’ will give researches in their naked form. The ‘semi-scientific section’ show the application of these researches to spiritual and physical culture, therapeutics etc. along with copious anatomical and physiological and physiological notes. The treatment of this section will be readily intelligible to any well-informed reader. The ‘popular section’ will attempt a scientific explanation of the Yogic culture but the basis will not necessarily be the research of this Asrama. Thus the matter appearing in the pages of the Yoga-Mimamsa will be very valuable to the scientific as well as the popular world ; and as nothing but original thought will be recorded therein this literature in sure to command the attention and esteem of every intelligent man”.
The things proceeded in right direction. Swami Kuvalayananda, a scientist and a yogi at same time, left us in 1966. However, his work remained to be completed. Fortunately, he left behind a very good team of dedicated workers including his worthy successor Swami Digambarji. The landmark publication ‘Abstract and Bibliography’ is one of the commendable works by the same team. Published in 1984 and authored by Dr. M.V. Bhole, it summarizes the work from 1924 to 1984.
In continuation, Swami Maheshananda and Dr. T.K. Bera have compiled and edited the present volume, “ABSTRACTS AND BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ARTICLES ON YOGA– Part: II” that summarizes the research information from Kaivalyadhama during the period 1985 to 1998.
While going through the manuscript of this book, I feel happy to see that the authors presented the summarized records of research in a systematic way so that the scientists ad even a common man can easily located any topic on “Yoga Research” interested for. This endeavour by the present authors claims a sincere appreciation and their effort in the present book will benefit the scientific community in particular and the public in general.
I am happy to write this foreword with the consideration that this book, in the form of “valuable research document” for the human society is being published during the Platinum Jubilee Year Celebration Ceremony of Kaivalyadhama and on the occasion of IIIrd International Conference on “YOGA RESEARCH AND TRADITIONS” Kaivalyadhama (Lonavla), Jan. 1-4,1999.
In this book,”ABSTRACT AND BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ARTICLES ON YOGA (Part-II)”, we have presented a brief updated information of research literature, published from Kaivalyadhama since Jan.1985 to Dec. 1998, incorporating the earlier ‘Supplement –I :Jan. 1985 to Dec.1987’.The updated information includes almost all the research works in Kaivalyadhama along with the Yoga researches reports of various scientists the world over.
We express our sincere thanks to Shri O.P. Tiwari, Secretary Kaivalyadhama SMYM Samiti, Lonaval, for being kind in writing the ‘Foreword’ to this edition.
