Call her Jaya (victorious); Mahakali (wife of Mahakala); Mati (wise) or Mahanashini (destroyer of desires). They are all different names of Durga, the chanting of which evokes in us a religious fervour and helps us focus on the almighty.
Goddess Durga is worshipped as Mother from time immemorial.
To slay demons, She manifests as Kali, Chamundi, Chandika, etc, and in a benign aspect as Shanta, Saraswati, Nalini, Annada, etc.
Following the tradition of cele- brating the holy names of Goddess, we have chosen 108 names, signifying the 108 beads in a rosary.
Chanting the Goddess' name evokes in us a religious fervour, and helps us to focus on the Almighty.
