Ustad Alla Rakha, father of Ustad Zakir Hussain is a reputed Tabla virtuouso belonging to the Punjabi School of Tabla playing. He was initiated and groomed into the art by Ustad Kadar Baksh. Much against the wishes of his elders, he preferred to carve out for himself a career as a percussionist. Today he is one of the most outstanding Table player known internationally. He is also a gifted singer an has composed music for over twenty films in Hindi and Punjabi. His close association for the past several years with maestros Pt. Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan has resulted in many LPs which are prized possessions of music lovers all over the world.

Ustad Zakir Hussain has been rightly acclaimed as a child prodigy. He enjoys global reputation as a percussion maestro. He has given major concerts as a soloist and also accompanied many world famous maestros both in India and abroad. Although groomed in the tradition of old masters, he is an artiste with a progressive outlook. He has been engaged in experimenting towards achieving a synthesis of Indian and Western music in collaboration with internationally celebrated artistes. Sonorities of percussion music are heard in this CD in all their ecstatic charm and the sense of evocation generated in the listener is all the more intense because there is inspirational fervour of Ustad Zakir Hussain beneath his creation.
